EULOGY:
CHRISTA KECK presented a moving tribute to CHARLOTTE HOWELLS. She thanked CHARLOTTE'S children, who joined us today, for requesting memorials to the Backpack Project in lieu of flowers. So far more than $1,100 has been contributed in memory of CHARLOTTE. Click here to read the Eulogy.

SUSAN HYCHKA presented LETA KELLEY with a new Paul Harris Fellow pin. This one has three sapphires on it, representing a total contribution of over $4,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Thank you, LETA!

PROGRAM:

TERRY WEST introduced Michael Baldwin, Professor, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department, at Purdue University. His subject was "Weather Forecasting in the 21st Century". In his classes he teaches that to forecast weather you must analyze observations of weather, use scientific understanding to create algebraic equations, enter the equations into the computer, and analyze the computer data. He sited a situation last week where the forecast was completely wrong and said that due to the nature of the subject, there will always be errors. To be a forecaster, one must have thick skin, be able to admit mistakes, keep up with technology and be able to communicate effectively. Radar and satellites have improved the ability to accurately forecast weather. Several good questions were presented by members after the meeting.

GUESTS:

Ed Geswein, guest of SCOTT RUMBLE; Mike Parker, guest of TERRY WEST; Kelly May, Jefferson and Jennifer Howells, guests of the club.
