50/50 RAFFLE:
CHRIS JOHANNSEN asked HARLEY FREY to draw the ticket, which belonged to VICKI BURCH. Unfortunately, all aces eluded her, so she received a travel mug as consolation prize.

PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT ELECT TERRY WEST introduced Rod Ray, President of the Board of Directors of the Lafayette Citizen's Band, whose topic was "170 Years and Still Going". He reviewed the objectives and purposes of the band, which include providing mostly free concerts and opportunities for citizens and students to perform. The band's beginning dates back to July 4th, 1842, a mere seventeen years after Lafayette was platted. There have been several name changes and performance locations over the years. Monetary support from the Lafayette Parks Department began in 1910, with a band tax to be collected by the City starting in 1941. Since 1984 the Lafayette Citizen's Band has been a not-for-profit corporation. Bill Kisinger has been the conductor since 1989. And the band plays on and on! Over those many decades I can only imagine how many of genres of music were played by the Lafayette Citizen's Band. Of course, according to Louis Armstrong, "All music is folk music. I ain't never heard no horse sing a song."
