50/50 RAFFLE:
CHRIS JOHANNSEN asked MARIELLEN NEUDECK to draw the ticket, which belonged to CHRIS JOHANNSEN. Unfortunately, all aces eluded him, so he received a gift card from University Book Store as consolation prize.
CONGRATULATIONS:

DAVE LUHMAN, president of the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation, presented MIKE KING with a Golden Service Plus certificate recognizing his contributions to the Foundation.

PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT TIM introduced fellow Rotarian DAVE LUHMAN, President of the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation, who brought along his assistant, fellow Rotarian RICHARD BARTHOLOMEW. Together they reviewed the history of the Foundation (organized in 1973) and its growth from $130,673 in 1991 to about $406,000 today. Over the years more than $800,000 has gone to community projects: Battle of Tippecanoe Ticket Office, Salvation Army Building, Museums at Prophetstown, Long Center Restoration, Habitat for Humanity Houses, Wabash Heritage Trail Overlook, CAPE Project Playground, youth Camperships and College Scholarships. Using DAVE'S suitcase, they reviewed the many ways members can contribute to the Foundation. One of the easiest ways to donate to the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation is through the use of life insurance; and you don't have to buy a new policy to do it. Rotarian JERRY COLE has volunteered to help anyone wishing to use life insurance to support the Foundation. If you have questions, please contact JERRY or one of the Foundation directors.

With help from our own songwriter and musician, BOB GRIFFITHS, we sang "The Magic Beanstalk" to illustrate how the new initiative to grow the Foundation endowment fund by $100,000 in the next two years. Our Foundation has been accepted by the Community Foundation to participate in their matching grant. We will receive one Dollar for every four new Dollars contributed to the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation. We have a deadline of April 1, 2012 to come up with the first $10,000. The remaining $90,000 will be due by December 31, 2013. It is hoped that all members will help us reach the goal. It will make a huge difference in how much more the club will be able to do for the community in the future.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

Since so many of our Lafayette Rotary Foundation funds support activities that help children, our thought for the week comes from Benjamin Spock, who offers his perspective on children:

"There are only two things a child will share willingly; communicable diseases and their mother's age."
