PROGRAM:

TERRY WEST introduced Dennis Savaiaono, Interim Dean of the Honors College at Purdue, whose topic was the new honors college. Purdue is creating a single visible honors college with the hope that it will create a highly visible opportunity to keep Indiana students in Indiana and bring new students to Purdue. The students would be dually enrolled in an academic college and be housed in a residential learning environment. Creating a small college experience where there are opportunities to develop leadership, scholarship and citizenship skills with about 2,000 students in a holistic setting is intended to increase graduation rates in four years. The academic colleges will recommend students for the honors program just as they do for scholarships. Several good questions were discussed at the conclusion of his presentation.

BARB REIF introduced Kathleen Burklow and Joe Topp from Jefferson High School. Each received a certificate and travel mug with the Four-Way Test to commemorate meeting with us.
