50/50 RAFFLE:

JOHN TROTT asked guest Gene Jones to draw the ticket, which belonged to SUSAN HYCHKA. Unfortunately, all aces eluded her, so she received a coupon for a discounted car wash at Mike's Car Wash as consolation prize.

PROGRAM:

TERRY WEST introduced John David Collier, landscape architect at Purdue, whose topic was "The Purdue University Campus Master Plan". He began with a short history of master plans, the first of which was by Walter Scholer in the 1920's. The next one was long overdue in 1986, which tried to return to the plan of the 1920's. In 2000 the plan was updated for Dr. Martin Jischke's arrival on campus and then again in 2009 to keep up with many recent changes in space and structures. The new plan strives to create a sense of community. Potential new buildings could provide nine million square feet of space surrounded by lots of important green space. A more compact, higher density campus is more cost effective, easier to navigate and provides zones for teaching, research and housing. Thirty-nine buildings have been built since 2003, four are under construction now and eight are being planned. Most buildings will be four stories high, with an occasional six stories as maximum height. John answered several good questions from a very interested audience.
