PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT ELECT TERRY WEST introduced fellow Rotarian VIC LECHTENBERG, whose topic was Purdue's Engagement Mission. He began by stating that he is a strong advocate for the land grant system of universities. Engagement was part of the university DNA from early on. VIC gave us a short history of the land grant process for Purdue, which made the 1869 deadline set by Congress.

His office of Engagement, begun by DON GENTRY, is ten years old and going strong. Economic Development, K-12 Education and Quality Connected Places are goals that receive attention daily. Changes in business and collaborations are producing results. TAP (Technical Assistance Program) helps companies throughout the State solve important problems. The Center for Regional development is focusing on cluster analysis and planning, as well as strategic doing. VIC shared stories of projects that are achieving results all around our state and nation.
