50/50 RAFFLE:

50/50 Raffle: JOHN BARRETT asked SONYA MARGERUM to pull the winning ticket, which belonged to DICK GRIPE. Unfortunately the Aces eluded him and he selected from the consolation prizes.

PROGRAM:

Today's Club Assembly was made more festive by a song led by MAURI WILLIAMSON. While tuning his ukulele, BOB GRIFFITHS tied a grass skirt and coconut bra around MAURI. In a scuffle with BOB FEUER, the ukulele was smashed, leaving DAVE LUHMAN to lead the song "Tiny Bubbles" with ARVID OLSON blowing soap bubbles over the front tables. You needed to be there!

DAVE LUHMAN, President of the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation, talked about the many ways to contribute to our local foundation, which supports the philanthropic activities of this club. The Project Fund provides funds for the club to spend next year and the Endowment Fund provides long-term support for charitable giving. DAVE encouraged us to support both funds.

LETA KELLEY and LEW RUNNELS described the procedure for packing and distributing backpacks. One and one-half hours seems to take care of both tasks when there are six or seven volunteers. The background clearance is easy to on-line. BECKY ROBLEDO has agreed to do it for anyone who needs assistance.

JACK KELLEY reported on International projects. Over the past few years our club has given $29,026 to provide $130,102 in assistance from Haiti to El Salvador and Liberia to Uganda. We get tremendous "bang for our buck" to help thousands of people in around the world.

President TIM announced that The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is awarding up to 500 matching for gifts toward Paul Harris Fellowships till the end of this year.

SUSAN HYCHKA reported on our Satellite Club, which will be from 5:30 ? 7:00, Wednesday evenings at Adelino's (on the corner of 3rd and Columbia). We have the balcony area for socializing and networking. There is a cash bar and free "munchies". The "person of interest" this week will be JOEL RASMUS, who will be available to talk about computer security.

SUSAN asked each member to write a name of a potential member on the card provided and call that person this week. Inviting someone to our regular Tuesday luncheons or to the Wednesday meetings is the only way we will keep our club alive.

If anyone plans to move to Hawaii, there are some actual laws on the books of which you need to be aware.
1) All residents may be fined as a result of not owning a boat.
2) Coins are not allowed to be placed in one's ears, and
3) Within the limits of any public park in Honolulu, it is unlawful to annoy any bird. ;-)
