PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT TIM introduced Vahid Motevalli, Professor and Department Head. Mechanical Engineering Technology. Purdue University, whose topic was "Pros and Cons of Hybrid Vehicles". Professor Motevalli introduced himself by saying that he came from Iran in 1978 to stay with a family in Minnesota. He is currently junior chair of the United Way and thanked us for our service to the community and world. While discussing hybrid vehicles, he showed us an electric bicycle, designed and built by VW to fold up and fit in the trunk of a VW. Up to 88% of energy is lost by gasoline generated energy as it makes its way from the engine to the tires. Electric vehicles capture some of the lost energy. Dr. Motevalli discussed how hybrids work, compared electrical power and energy storage, listed system components needed in a car, and reviewed the advantages versus disadvantages of these vehicles.

STUDENT GUESTS:

BOB HANNEMANN introduced MaKaela Snider and Caleb Sommers from McCutcheon High School. Each received a certificate and a travel mug with the Four Way Test to commemorate meeting with us today.
