50/50 RAFFLE:
ZACH BROWN asked CORKY MITCHELL to draw the winning ticket for today's 50/50 Raffle. The ticket belonged to CECIL BLIGNAUT. Unfortunately the Ace of Diamonds eluded him. He received an umbrella from Lafayette Savings Bank as consolation prize.

PROGRAM:

BOB GRIFFITHS introduced Todd Rokita, U.S. Congressman for District 4 in Indiana, who serves on the House budget committee. After assuring members that his presentation passes the 4-Way Test, he shared several gloomy facts about the financial state of our country. He then explained how the recent legislation to raise the debt ceiling is a false solution. There were no reforms to entitlement programs and not enough spending cuts to make a difference. The solutions that he feels will work are: raise eligibility ages for Medicare and Social Security; encourage competition in health care, grow the economy and write a new tax code. Several good questions from members elicited his perspective on taxes, civility and compromise.
