PROGRAM:

MICHAEL SIMPSON, chair of the Scholarship/Citizenship committee opened the program by thanking the committee, BARB REIF, DAVE MC GAW, ELDON ORTMAN and LIZ SOLBERG. He also thanked ARVID OLSON for his work to put together the power point presentation for today's program. He then introduced the parents of the students and school officials. Scott Grass, Faith Christian School Administrator; Dr. Ed Eiler, Lafayette School Corporation Superintendent; Dr. Scott Hanback, Tippecanoe School Corporation Superintendent, Doug Lesley Harrison High School Principal and John Beeker, McCutcheon High School Principal; Dr. Rocky Killion, West Lafayette School Corporation Superintendent and Joyce Grimble, West Lafayette High School Counselor stood to be recognized.

ARVID OLSON introduced Tara Griffin, daughter of Patrick and Tamara Griffin, and a senior at Faith Christian School. Tara delivers meals on wheels, volunteers at Cary Camp, runs cheerleading camps for 3 - 6 graders, organizes the Christmas for Everyone toy drive. Awards for cheerleading and art line her shelves. She plans to attend IUPUI to major in business sales and marketing. Because of her love of community service Tara will continue to give of herself.

MICHAEL introduced Meredith Johnson, daughter of Thomas and LeAnne Johnson, who graduates from Jefferson High School in a few days. Marching band, varsity singers, wood ensemble, Jeff Leadership Academy and the Tennis team, National Honor Society Girl's State and several other activities have filled any spare time Meredith had. She will study biochemistry at IU with the hope of going into neonatology or genetics.

LIZ SOLBERG introduced Hannah Walters, daughter of Kevin and Linda Walters, whose activities at McCutcheon High School include president of the student council, golf, dance team captain and the photo club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, volunteers at the YMCA and St. Boniface Church. Hannah has decided to attend Manchester College to study math education with the goal of teaching junior high math.

BARB REIF introduced Kyle Patton, son of Andrew and Kristen Walters. Active in athletics at West Lafayette High School, Kyle was co captain of the football and wrestling teams. In addition to several athletic honors, he is president of the National Honor Society and Valedictorian. He volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, LUM and Covenant Church. Kyle will study neuroscience at Wheaton College.

DAVE MC GAW introduced Ellen Hallberg, daughter of Dallas and Rose Hallberg. At Harrison High School Ellen has participated in band, Keyettes, National Honor Society, tennis and volleyball. Her honors include academic, musical and athletic awards. She will study biology at IU to prepare for a career as a Doctor of Physical Therapy. The Peace Corp is also in her future.


PRESIDENT DICK congratulated the students and parents, noting that he felt the world was in good hands, with these young people setting the example.
