ANNOUNCEMENTS: |
♦ Our club was one of 9 our of 45 to receive from DG NAJJAR both the Governor's Citation and the Presidential Citation at the District Conference last weekend. Although we have received one or the other in the past, this is the first time in memory that we have qualified for both Citations. Congratulations to PRESIDENT DICK and to the club!!! |
♦ NANCY JO TRAFTON, president of the Lafayette Daybreak Club, invited us to Toast to Mental Health this Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Best Western. Tickets ($35) are available at the door. |
♦ She also invited us to their Rotary After Hours, 5:00 on June 2nd at Holiday Inn downtown. There is a $5 charge at the door. All are welcome. |
♦ For Every Rotarian Every Year one third of the members have made a contribution to The Rotary Foundation. Our average is $65 toward our goal of $100 per member. There is still time to play your part. Contribute on line or bring a check to the meeting. |
♦ PRESIDENT DICK offered a big THANK YOU to very dedicated members who serve quietly behind the scenes every week. They are BOB VERPLANK and TOM MORAN for technical assistance when needed - which is often! BILL FULLER, DAVE LANDGREBE and BRUCE HARDING offer their technical assistance to our secretary every week by putting Ripples on the web, keeping our database up to date and maintaining the web site (respectively). |
♦ Rotarian of the Year nomination forms are available at the back desk. Please think of someone in the club who is deserving of recognition. |
♦ PRESIDENT ELECT TIM LUZADER thanked members for suggestions for programs this year. He reminded everyone that TERRY WEST will need the same support as he takes over the responsibility for programs in a couple of months. Please send your ideas to TERRY. |
♦ SUZANNE SHACKLETON has been Alumni Chair for the District. She announced that the following Rotarians who have connections to our club will be at the International Conference in New Orleans: '09 GSE team leader from Zambia, DOUG KATENGO; 1983 Purdue grad DAVID ALEXANDER, who is now Governor of District 9180 in Melbourne, Australia; and 1978 GSE team member GULAM A VAHANVATY from India. |
♦ SUZANN has been asked to be Rotary Peace Fellowship Chair for the District this coming year. It is a masters program offered at Duke University in Chapel Hill, N C; International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan; Universidad del Salvador, Buenos Aires, Argentina; University of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England; University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia; Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. There is also a three month Professional Development Certificate Program offered at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. If you know of someone who would be interested in this program, please contact SUZANN at slshackl@localline.com |
♦ The winning ticket for today's 50/50 Raffle belonged to JIM HANKS. Unfortunately the Ace of Diamonds eluded him, but he took home a Fast Eddies car wash coupon as consolation prize. |
