PROGRAM:

ROB NOLL, chair of the Two Year College Scholarship committee, introduced Dr. David A. Bathe, Chancellor, Ivy Tech Community College, Lafayette, and Mr. TIMOTHY HULA, Director of Career Services, Harrison College. In describing both institutions, he emphasized that they serve people at all stages of adult life. ROB also introduced the committee and thanked them for their work on behalf of our club. Along with ROB, BETTY DOVERSBERGER, BILL LOVELL, TOM PEARSON and ELDON ORTMAN read and evaluated the applications. ED HEMMER, who died recently, was an important part of the committee for many years.

This year's recipients of awards for $1,000 each are Rosa Alanis, Rachel Hedge, Nancy Sells, and Kelly Yarberry, all Ivy Tech students. L to R: Alanis, Sells, Yarberry

Rosa Alanis is pursuing a career in Health Science. She wants a degree in surgical assisting. A first generation student and bilingual, Rosa is involved in the Latino Student Union. She dreams of becoming a pediatrician.

Rachel Hedge was unable to join us today due to being a participant in the Indiana Academic Team, which is competing in Indianapolis today. She is a substitute teacher studying elementary education. Rachel also cares for her special needs son and brother.

Nancy Sells is studying to be a paralegal. In addition to her studies she has two internships ? one at Legal Aid and the other at Greater Lafayette Commerce. Her husband, Daniel Sells and her employer, Resa Hodnett, at Greater Lafayette Commerce accompanied her today. Nancy is president of the Paralegal Club at Ivy Tech and intends to make Tippecanoe County her home.

Kelly Yarberry, a single mother of two children who attend Miami Elementary School, was accompanied by her mother, Jeanne Hanthorn. The pre-nursing program she is pursuing will help her on her way to becoming a registered nurse. She thanked the club for helping her pursue educational opportunities resulting in a better job and improved ability to provide for her children.

STUDENT GUESTS:

CHIP RUTLEDGE introduced Megan Ortman and Patrick Bondi from Central Catholic High School. Each received a certificate and a travel mug with the Four-Way Test to commemorate meeting with us today.
