PROGRAM:

TIM LUZADER, introduced Steven Shelby, whose topic was ReCharging Education in Indiana. Although the title might lead one to believe he might be speaking about the issues being debated in Indianapolis, it turns out that teaching and electric cars fit together nicely. The Purdue Electric Vehicle Initiative and Smart Grid are programs for which the university has received grants. He discussed how producing electric vehicles involves emerging technology, education and workforce development. To excite young people to go into this field, races are held. There will be one on the Grand Prix track at Purdue on April 30th. And May 7th there will be more than 50 teams from all over the world competing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He predicts that by 2020 at least 25% of all vehicles on the road will be powered by electricity.
