ANNOUNCEMENTS:

♦ Former Lafayette Rotarian, Dick Smith, died in New Mexico this week. Music table members, BOB VERPLANK and JOHON BARRETT, shared some memories with the club.

♦ JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER announced that nomination forms for the Vocational Service Above Self Award are available at the back table. A Rotarian, non- Rotarian or agency may be nominated. The deadline is March 1st. Please think of a deserving person to recognize.

♦ Packers are needed on Thursdays to pack backpacks at Miami School. Please sign up to help or contact LETA KELLEY. On Friday afternoons the Distribution committee could use some help. Contact DICK RAHDERT for details.

♦ February 23rd is the 106th birthday of Rotary.

♦ JOHN BARRETT asked VICKI BURCH to draw the winning 50/50 Raffle ticket. It belonged to JIM HOBBS, who picked the Ace of Spades! Congratulations JIM!

♦ Registration for District Conference is easy on line. The first 300 registrants will receive tickets to the Charlie Daniels show at the Palladium in Carmel as part of the $99 registration fee. A link from our website to the District website will take you to the registration form. For those who want to fill in a paper form, they are available at the back table. Between our club and Daybreak, there are eleven members who are already registered.

♦ The Rotary International Convention is May 21 - 25 in New Orleans. Registration forms are available at the back desk. This is the last opportunity in about 5 years to attend the convention in the U.S.

Highlights from the Club Board Meeting:

♦ The District Governor Nominee, CRAIG SHERMAN, came to the meeting to get to know our club better and to discuss our club's relationship with the District.

♦ ZACH BROWN will serve a three year term on the board in the Membership line of Service.

♦ The Club will open a new checking account at Lafayette Savings Bank.

♦ Any club member who would like to receive information directly from District officials is encouraged to use the District's web site (there is a hot link from our web site) to enter your e-mail address in the District's database.

♦ Did you know? Rotary has Fellowships. These are clubs with special interests that attract members from all over the world. Some examples: Antique cars, bird watching, bridge playing, canoeing, caravanning, chess, cycling, doctors, fine arts and antiques, fishing, flying, golfing, musicians, rare book collectors, history buffs, stamp collectors. . . you get the picture.
