BIRTHDAY TABLE:
JANE SMITH, Birthday Table Chair for February, introduced the members who are celebrating another year this month and announced that so far $991 has been contributed to our Foundations.

PROGRAM:

MIKE PIGGOTT introduced Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski, who gave us the 2011 State of the City. He began by thanking the citizens of Lafayette. There are many who serve the city on various boards and commissions and as employees. But the citizenry at large also plays an important role. Financially the city is in great shape for hard times. The budget has been reduced and the rainy day fund increased - while continuing to improve and add services. There have been improvements to information technology, public safety, roads, sidewalks and trails. The Weed & Seed program is reducing crime and improving neighborhoods. No debt was incurred in providing streetscapes and public art. When City Hall ran out of room, instead of building an addition, the city bought and rehabilitated a nearby building for offices. The Pearl River tunnel, an engineering feat that may win the city an award, was completed. Mayor Roswarski answered some questions after giving this snapshot of city progress.

STUDENT GUESTS:

PAUL POST introduced MacKenze Miller from Jefferson High School. CHIP RUTLEDGE introduced Courtney Orme and Brady Knoy from McCutcheon High School. Each received a certificate and a travel mug with the Four-Way Test to commemorate meeting with us.
