PROGRAM:

Purdue Athletic Director, Morgan Burke, introduced Matt Painter, Purdue Men's Varsity Basketball Coach.

PAINTER talked about the importance of bonding when recruiting players and a positive attitude in dealing with injured players. He is thankful to have two All-American players. Playing hard, taking care of the ball and being a good team will produce results. Keeping the guys on edge makes them play better.

Burke gave us an update on Mackey Arena saying it is 2/3 completed and dedication events are scheduled for 11/11/11. While introducing Sharon Versyp, Purdue Women's Varsity Basketball Coach, he mentioned that being a former Purdue player was not a requirement for the job, but it helps. Versyp was nducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame last April.

Coach Versyp reiterated what Matt said about relationships being basic. She teaches the fundamentals of the game and of life. Last year the team was devastated by injuries, but are stronger for the experience. Look for lots of platoon subbing and versatility this year. Winning games comes from winning moments.

Burke challenged the high school coaches to join him in finding better ways to condition student athletes to reduce injuries.
