STUCKY FEUER RAHDERT
PROGRAM:

JOHN COREY introduced Mary Ann Forbes, Executive Director of the YWCA since May 3rd. She became involved with the YW attending Y-Teen dances. Mary Ann began with a brief history of the YW. In the 1850's women were moving to cities, taking jobs as secretaries and teachers, and they needed safe housing for single women. By 1858 the slogan "Women Helping Women" became the central theme of the newly organized YWCA. The purpose was to advocate for women and families, celebrate diversity, address violence against women, increase women's incomes through education and enrichment programs and advocate for children. These are still central to the YW today. In 2001 the national office decentralized, strengthening the nine regions. The YWCA of Greater Lafayette is in transition. A long-range plan and business plan are being discussed. Domestic violence, women's cancer programs and programs for youth will continue to receive strong support. Dates to remember:

September 24th is the "Yard Sale" to benefit United Way. Everyone loves a yard sale! Come and find a treasure.
