    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

♦ TERRY WEST announced that $74 worth of raffle tickets were sold today. The winning number belonged to PATTI TRUITT. Although the Ace of Spaces eluded her, she won a free lunch. One hundred seventy five Dollars remains in the pot for next week.

♦ If your e-mail server has changed from verizon to frontier, please inform JANE. High school guests will be visiting us beginning next week.

♦ JAYNE FEATHERS announced that next Friday is the first distribution of backpacks for the school year. Everyone needs a new background check (forms available from JANE). Unfortunately, CHARLOTTE HOWELL'S health is forcing her to step down as chair of the steering committee. If you can step up to a leadership role, please contact JAYNE. BECKY ROBLEDO has been filling in for CHARLOTTE on a temporary basis. The sign up sheets are on the bulletin board for packing on Thursdays and distributing on Fridays. Please play your part!

♦ As part of the Gift of Life program, a team of doctors and nurses from Riley Hospital is going to Kampala, Uganda to teach heart surgery on October 2, 2010.

♦ October 2nd has been declared Rotary Workday in the State of Indiana by Governor Mitch Daniels. A local project with Daybreak, Interact and Rotaract is being discussed. If you have ideas, please contact PRESIDENT DICK.

♦ The open backpack at the attendance table is ready to receive loose change and paper as a fund-raiser for that project.

♦ This fall the Purdue Rotaract Club will be participating in several events, some that we do every year and a few that we are starting up new this year. Our officers this year are as follows: President - Jacqueline Cooney, Vice-President - Linsay Taylor, Treasurer - Elise Leung, and Secretary - Emilie Fleagle. We are starting off the semester with a few callouts followed by a cookout with the Rotarians on September 26 in Happy Hallow park. We will also be participating in a Habitat for Humanity project in September. Trick or Treat for Cans is a project we started last year to raise canned foods for Food Finders Food Bank. Last year Trick or Treat for cans was a blast and we also collected a lot of canned food items, so look for us in neighborhoods around West Lafayette this coming Halloween as well! In November we will be going to a Senior Citizens home near Thanksgiving time to play games and make some fall treats with the residents. Lastly, this December we will be organizing a snow shoveling project for people around West Lafayette and Lafayette who are unable to do the work themselves and require assistance as well as participating in the annual Bell Ringing with the Salvation Army. We look forward to meeting you all at the cookout on September 26th!
