ROTARY INTERNATIONAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK:

At a College of Liberal Arts Dinner for distinguished alumni in April, DICK RAHDERT met a former recipient of the award who was also a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in 1958. She knew without a moment's hesitation that CURT HOSTETLER had helped her with the nomination and selection process. She described the experience in South America as "life changing". Those are the two words often used by Ambassadorial Scholars. It's one of the best uses of our Rotary dollars.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

♦ BOB HANNEMANN, chair of the Missing Children Project Committee, informed us that the Amber Alert in Lafayette yesterday had a happy ending. The child was successfully located.

♦ FRITZ COHEN, chair of the Shots Not Spots Committee, announced that the Health Department is changing in the program. Immunizations will be given every Wednesday in August at the Fair Grounds from 1 - 5. Since more health care professionals will be involved, there is no need for volunteers. FRITZ was asked to pass along the deep appreciation for help in the past.

♦ Our club is collaborating with the Daybreak Rotary Club this year to bring a Rotary Exchange student to our towns. Rotary feels the youth exchange program is the best way to spread international understanding.

♦ The Public Relations Committee has been restructured slightly. Everyone is on this committee! Do your part to share the good work of Rotary.

♦ RAHDERT announced that the District Governor's code for membership recruitment is 141-350-2011. That means one for one, we have 350 days to each bring in a new member by 2011.

♦ The District Governor asked the Presidents of each club in the District to be pace setters and make their contribution to Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) immediately. Your Board of Directors and Officers have been asked to do the same.

♦ Make plans now to go to the R I Convention in New Orleans next May. It is the last time the convention will be in North America for several years.

    JANE'S CORNER:
    Highlights of Club Board Meeting:

♦ The Campership Committee's recommendations for funds to help 7 organizations with scholarships for 45 children.

♦ GREG KAPP is our club's contact for RILA.

♦ Four members of our club attended the District Membership Conference.

♦ Some fund raising ideas were generated.

If you have a Thought for the Week, please contact PRESIDENT DICK.
