CONGRATULATIONS:

BOB GRIFFITHS presented MICHAEL SIMPSON with a certificate recognizing him at the Golden Service level of contribution to The Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation.

SPECIAL RESENTATION:

BILQIS HOQUE, visiting Rotarian from Purbasha, Bangladesh, made us aware of a project her Rotary Club is managing to provide 7,000 to 12,000 people with safe water. Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Although it experiences frequent floods and cyclones, there is very little access to safe drinking water. The high concentration of arsenic in well water creates sickness, discrimination, and death. She suggested that her club and our club could work together on future projects.

PROGRAM:

CHRISTA introduced BOB GRIFFITHS, President of The Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation. BOB reviewed the performance of the Foundation for the past three quarters, explaining how the cash flow works. The Investment Committee, chaired by JAY SMITH, has performed masterfully during the recent dramatic downturn. The Foundation's assets are nearly back to where they were at the high mark in September of 2007. BOB also announced that as of July 1st, The Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation will no longer process contributions to The Rotary Foundation in Evanston. This is a complicated bookkeeping chore for the Foundation and because the technology at Rotary International has made the task a simple one for members, it seemed prudent to take the step at this time. BOB asked members of The Lafayette Rotary Foundation Board and the Investment Committee to stand to be recognized and thanked.
