SPECIAL MEETING:
The meeting was called to order by PRESIDENT CHRISTA KECK. A quorum consisting of one third of the membership was required and 97 of the 209 members were present. TOM MORAN moved with a second by ARVID OLSON to approve the proposed ByLaws. The motion received unanimous approval.

PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT ELECT DICK RAHDERT introduced Alexander Day, President of Engineers Without Borders, an organization with 250 chapters, 180 of which are student chapters. The Purdue chapter is affiliated with the Chicago Professional chapter. The Global Engineering program supports the Purdue Chapter, helping it to secure a project in Papachaera, Bolivia in 2008. Alex explained the three steps involved in each project: assessment, implementation and sustaining, often involving at least a five year commitment to help the community. Professional engineers mentor and review the whole project, which must be appropriate, sustainable and of quality. He described the Bolivia project in detail, noting that part of the work involves teaching the locals about water quality and usage. The Purdue chapter is looking for a Rotary club to be the lead club for a matching grant.
