ANNOUNCEMENTS:

♦ There is a vacancy on the board of directors in the Community Projects Avenue of Service. If interested in knowing the extent of responsibilities, please contact

♦ Backpack volunteers are needed for this Thursday and Friday. There is a sign up sheet for May with many open dates.

♦ DICK RAHDERT asked members to help TIM LUZADER with program suggestions for next year.

♦ If you would like club members to be informed of surgeries or illness, please notify the President or Secretary.

♦ The Lafayette Daybreak Club is seeking host families for a Rotary Exchange Student from Brazil coming to Lafayette Jefferson High School this fall. If you can help, or know someone who can (does not have to be a Rotarian), Please contact TOM BUSCH or JANE.


JANE'S CORNER:
Highlights of the Board Meeting:

♦ A checking account for the Future Vision Plan has been opened at Lafayette Savings Bank

♦ Our grant request for $15,000 worth of equipment for the El Salvador Burn Unit was approved in the amount of $5,000.

♦ PDG JIM GRAHAM has asked large clubs in the district to pledge $5,000 toward teaching local doctors in Uganda to repair hearts. This would be done by the Gift of Life project.

♦ The Backpack Project crew will remain the same for next year, although new blood is needed. Non-Rotarians are welcome to pack and distribute.

♦ The Lafayette Rotary Club and the Lafayette Daybreak Rotary Club will jointly host a Rotary Youth Exchange student from Brazil. Daybreak will provide the supervision and our club will provide $1,800 to cover 75% of the costs.

♦ Announcements included:

A District Leadership Conference will be held August 21 in Carmel. Future leaders of the club are urged to attend.

The Foundation meeting will be held in October.

JEANNE NORBERG is writing an article for The Rotarian Magazine about Gift of Life. She also has a video of the backpack project, featuring Rotary.

TERRY WEST says the Ambassadorial Scholar program will be funded for another year.

PDG BILL HATFIELD announced that the changes made by the Council on Legislation are available on the RI website (rotary.org).
