SPECIAL PRESENTATION:
Ambassadorial Scholar Eun Young Park from South Korea is studying mathematics at Purdue. Having arrived here last August, her most memorable holiday so far is Thanksgiving. The South Koreans have a similar holiday in August every year called Chuseok. She described the activities of the three day event which include special ancestral ceremonies and food, worship services, performances to commemorate departed ancestors and folk games.

PROGRAM:

BETTY DOVERSBERGER, JOHN COREY and GREG KAPP presented a very entertaining and informative program on the Census: Being Counted Counts. While BETTY came loaded with facts, JOHN gave us pop quizzes. The member with the correct answer received a prize from GREG KAPP. Many had received their Census form. Filling out the shortest form ever is easy, safe and important. Everything from Congressional seats to funding for schools is based on the number of people in the area. The financial impact is about $4,000 per person per year. The 2000 census counted about 72% of the residents here. The goal this year is 85%. There are census jobs available (paying about $13.00 per hour) involving follow-up work, which begins April 15th. Census Day Community Celebration is Saturday, March 27th at Ivy Tech.
