PROGRAM:

DICK RAHDERT introduced Phil Krause, M.D. who specializes in Cardiac Electrophysiology. He describes himself as the heart rhythm manager. Problems with the heart's electrical system can stem from the "boss", the "cable" or the "workers". Tools to fix problems in these areas include tape (medications), electrical shocks, batteries, wires and capacitors. With all of these analogies, he very clearly explained how the heart's electrical systems works and what happens when something goes wrong. Dr. Krause summarized by saying the heart has a plumbing system and an electrical system; healthy hearts have healthy wiring; many tools exist to fix system failures; and technology is always improving.
