PROGRAM:

FRITZ COHEN introduced Howard Taylor, Director of Purdue Division of Recreational Sports. The facility commonly known as the Co-Rec opened in 1957 at a cost of $2.5 million (paid for by student fees) and was the first such facility at a university in the U.S. A new facility is needed. Students and focus groups came up with a list of "wants". Windows heads the list. It also needs to be visually accessible, provide a sense of place, be Eco-friendly, have a flexible design and satisfy student demand. He showed pictures of new facilities at schools around the country. Then he reviewed plans for the new Purdue facility, which is expected to provide student recreational opportunities for another 50 years. A multi-purpose gym, indoor track, shallow pool, kitchen, healthy food bar, lounge space, climbing and boulder walls are part of the plan. This is to be paid for with student fees and $3 million in donations. No State funds are involved.

LEW RUNNELS introduced Jasmyn Mudrich and Josiah Lamb from Jefferson High School. Each received a certificate and a travel mug with the 4-way test to commemorate meeting with us.
