ANNOUNCEMENTS:

♦ The public health members of our club advise us that we would be safer if we refrained from shaking hands when we greet each other at the door. Greeters can say a friendly hello, but should keep hands to themselves to inhibit the spread of flu. Thanks for your understanding.

♦ PRESIDENT CHRISTA reminded us that by putting aside one Dollar a day from now until Christmas, we will have the $100 per person required by The Rotary Foundation to fulfill the Every Rotarian Every requirement. We can do it!

♦ The Gus Macker Committee received a donation of a $100 gift card from Sam's Club. Every Dollar and gift card counts! Thanks to Sam's Club!

♦ TOM MORAN asked members to seriously consider being a team sponsor ($124) for the Gus Macker Tournament. To make this tournament a success all of us are going to have to pitch in. The $124 is tax deductible if your check is made payable to the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation. It does not qualify for Golden Service recognition.

♦ TOM also asked us to sign up to volunteer to help at the Gus Macker Tournament, September 12 and 13. There are jobs to satisfy every limitation. If you need to sit, there are sitting jobs. If you can stand or run, we have a job for you. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board. Read/Download the signup sheet here.

♦ MIKE SIMPSON announced that there will be a meeting of the High School Scholarship committee next Tuesday immediately following the meeting.

♦ A farewell party for Dan Guildenbacher is planned for Wednesday, September 16th from 5-6:30 at the Habitat for Humanity office. It will be an open house format. No agenda - just food and chit-chat. All Rotarians involved with Gus Macker the past three years appreciate Dan's hard work and have the opportunity to send him off to Germany with best wishes.

♦ Mark your calendar:
Ring the Bell for Salvation Army: December 12, 2009.
District Foundation Meeting: October 10th
Indianapolis-East Talent Contest: October 10th

♦ JAYNE FEATHERS asked us to volunteer for packing and distributing Backpacks. Contact BECKY ROBLEDO and CHARLOTTE HOWELLS respectively. Don't forget that Security Checks are required. Forms are on-line or at JANE'S table. She also presented an Official Apple to LAURA NICOLET, who "caught the spirit" of service and is leaving the area to pursue a PhD. We appreciate LAURA'S help and wish her well!

Items of the Backpack wish list for Christmas can be brought to Rotary any Tuesday. The Backpack Committee is happy to receive them.

♦ Anyone associated with the university interested in serving as a sponsor for the Rotaract Club is invited to contact ROB NOLL.
