    ANNOUNCEMENTS:

♦ Tippecanoe Health Department Director of Nursing, Donella Carter would like to thank the volunteers from our club for their help: LETA KELLEY, JACK KELLEY, BARB REIF, MARIELLEN NEUDECK, JANE SMITH, GENE HILLS, LEONA COHEN, PAUL POST, FRITZ COHEN and visiting Rotarian MAUREEN GRABOWSKI. Children immunized: 261; Shots given: 848.

♦ JAYNE FEATHERS reminded us that backpack packing begins September 3rd. A tidy yellow sheet explaining the opportunities to volunteer and who is in charge was available on each table.

♦ KIM MOTULIAK gave us the "Top 10 Reasons to Shop for the Holiday Backpack". This very clever announcement came with a pocket-sized card giving suggestions of the foods that are needed.

♦ SUSAN SMITH read a thank you note from Matt Lancaster, a West Lafayette High School student who received a scholarship from us last spring.

♦ TOM MORAN asked members to seriously consider being a team sponsor ($124) for the Gus Macker Tournament. To make this tournament a success all of us are going to have to pitch in. The $124 is tax deductible if your check is made payable to the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation. It does not qualify for Golden Service recognition.

    PROSPECTIVE NEW MEMBERS:

Gary Blau, sponsored by BOB HANNEMANN, and Harriet Coppoc, sponsored by GORDON COPPOC, have been approved for membership. If there are no objections, they will be introduced soon.

    THANK YOU:
    Dear Jane,

How could you be more timely than to have the stately planter delivered the day before we departed for a hip replacement at St. Vincent Hospital? Not to mention that it will last for weeks while I am quite restricted. It already seems like the surgery was at least a month ago! I have read thank you notes in the Ripples for many years. Be assured, Rotary friends, it is definitely appreciated when the planter is delivered to your door.
I send you a sincere thank you,
    GENE COURTANEY

Highlights of the Club Board meeting:

♦ Gus Macker Tournament is September 12 and 13

♦ After much discussion, the consensus was to bestow Life Membership on a case by case basis as necessary instead of using a point system considered by the committee appointed to consider emeritus status.

♦ WEST reported that Eu Jung Park will be the new Ambassadorial Scholar from South Korea. We will also have visits by the Todd Scholar from Germany, sponsored by the Attica/Williamsport Club.

♦ KELLEY announced that the application for a GSE Team has been submitted.

♦ NOLL announced that in an effort to improve the number of applicants to choose from, both the high school and two year scholarship committees intend to have applications for scholarships available in the fall.
