CLUB CONCERNS:
PRESIDENT ROB asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK and ROY WHISTLER.
VOCATIONAL MOMENT:

JIM KLUSMAN is a native of North Dakota and a graduate of NDSU with a degree in mathematics. Jim is married to Nancy, another North Dakotan, and they have two children and one granddaughter.
His first job was a newspaper delivery boy, and through college he had many jobs. When he was 20 he flew for the first time and decided that he wanted to fly jets. He became a USAF pilot and was on active duty for 26 years, never having considered a career in the USAF! As an Air Force pilot, KLUSMAN flew over 1,000 combat sorties in 1 year in Vietnam, and served in various other capacities including tours of duty at the Pentagon and the Department of Defense. In the course of his career he served as faculty at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and obtained and MS and PhD in psychology while in Colorado.
After an assignment at Purdue, KLUSMAN was then hired as the first full time employee of the Greater Lafayette Community Foundation. JIM was soon named President of the GLCF and retired in 2006. Since then he has done consulting as a coach for community development organizations. JIM believes that integrity is the most important characteristic one offers or product that an organization demonstrates, and as such believes Rotary's mission aligns with his beliefs.

PROGRAM:

TERRY WEST reviewed the purposes, accomplishments and volunteers of the Ambassadorial Scholar Committee.
He introduced Junhwan Park, a current Ambassadorial Scholar to our club from South Korea. Mr. Park received an undergraduate degree in Textile Engineering in 1999 at SungKyunKwan University in the Republic of Korea (South Korea's official name). He is currently enrolled at Purdue in the MBA program, concentrating in finance.
Park noted several differences between US and Korean higher education. One is that in the US there is a focus on discussion with the Professor's leadership, but in Korea the focus is on the Professor's lecture, with rare discussion in the classroom.
Mr. Park showed a video on the Republic of Korea and said that he introduces Rotary wherever he has the opportunity. As an Ambassadorial Scholar, he now has a better understanding of RI's motto: "Service Above Self".

JACK KELLEY introduced Mr. Jungwan Koh, our second Ambassadorial Scholar. Mr. Koh gave a picture of the Republic of Korea from a statistical point of view, stating that it is 14 hours in flight from Chicago, is about the size of Indiana, and 70% of their land is mountainous.
Korea has a 5,000 year history. Their culture is based on Confucianism, with respect paid to older people, their language is Han-gul, and they enjoy a 99% literacy rate. Korea is the 10th largest country in terms of their scale of trade and this has been built since the close of the Korean War in 1953.
Mr. Koh also showed a video of his country showing a western family enjoying some traditions in his homeland.
