CLUB CONCERNS:
PRESIDENT ROB asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK, ROY WHISTLER, and the family and friends of MIKE KING whose wife died Saturday.
VOCATIONAL MOMENT:

JANE TURNER, your humble Secretary and Editor, had her turn at the podium to talk about her career. I'd rather say "you had to be there" to hear about my "very checkered career". But here goes. I was a guinea pig for polio vaccine in Madison, WI; received a liberal arts education at the University of Illinois and a diploma from Patricia Stevens Finishing and Modeling School; was a model in Chicago, a legal secretary; a plant shop owner in Elgin, IL; manager of a 270 unit apartment complex; administrative assistant and researcher for a land surveying and engineering company; a travel agent and the owner of a customized special interest tour operation; a care giver and the secretary of this Rotary Club. I now have a new business making English toffee. My way of practicing Service Above Self is to try to make our world a little brighter place every day.

CONGRATULATIONS:

RICHARD BARTHOLOMEW, president of The Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation Board, presented Golden Service Certificates to JOHN SANDERSON and CHARLOTTE HOWELLS. JIM RISK achieved Diamond Recognition level and asked that his certificate be mailed to him. Thank you to all for your generous spirit!

PROGRAM:

FRITZ COHEN introduced Purdue Women's Swim Coach, John Klinge, who was a swimmer at Purdue and is now back in his fifth month as Head Coach. Purdue has one of the finest facilities in the country. The swimming needs to improve. John introduced the staff and described the swimmer's year, including the daily schedule for swimming and exercise. He wants to promote a culture of excellence, work ethic, academics and athletics and team building. The students came up with the recruiting criteria, calling it Purdue "FIT", standing for fast, intelligent, talented, tough, and team oriented. The team and staff are instituting new traditions to reward student swimmers who embody the core values they all strive to exhibit.
