PROGRAM:

Jayne Feathers introduced Matt Rhoda and provided some facts to help us understand the situation worldwide and here in the United States. Worldwide over 10,000,000 children die annually from malnutrition and hunger. In the USA 1 in 10 children (over 12 Million) is at risk of malnutrition and hunger. One half of the kids in Tippecanoe County (5,300) are living at or below the poverty level.

Matt Rhoda, Principal, also added to those statistics. 70% of the kid at his school (480) qualify for free or reduced meals and book rental. 80 children are in the food back pack program to help make sure they don't go hungry during the weekend. Matt also told about the home lives of some of the children and the massive uphill battle they have on a daily basis.

Matt also asked for volunteers for the Miami Mentor program: 20 minutes, two times a week to help the children who need good role model in their lives. Matt was also helped by Debbie Gutwein in his presentation.

For every one of us that succeeds, it's because there's somebody there to show you the way out. The light doesn't always necessarily have to be in your family; for me it was teachers and school."
