    ANNOUNCEMENTS:
    • CHRISTA KECK, back from their summer cabin in Canada, presented a flag from Gore Bay, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada. This small club raises funds by preparing fish (Lake Huron Whitefish) fries. CHRISTA, DAVE FILMER, JANE TURNER and Carl Hager helped with two of these events in two days, which netted their club about C$4,000.00. Not bad for 17 members and 4 extras!

    • PAUL POST told us to watch for the five billboards that are advertising our Gus Macker Basketball Tournament. He also encouraged us to volunteer for Registration on September 26th from 4 – 7:30 P.M. and September 27th from 6:30 – 9:30 A.M. This is NOT hard work. Please see PAUL if you can help.

    • MIKE SIMPSON has called a meeting of the High School Scholarship Committee after next week's meeting.

    • JAYNE FEATHERS asked that any members who don't have their security check in should pursue that by picking up a form from JANE and sending it in directly to Miami Elementary.

    • JAYNE announced the official kick off of the Backpack project will be August 26th. A trial run will take place next week, August 21st at Miami Elementary School.

    • FRITZ COHEN reported that 206 children received inoculations at Shots Not Spots. Twelve members volunteered. A BIG thank you to those who participated!

    • JEANNE NORBERG reminded us that the Family of Rotary Party (formerly known as the New Member Reception) will be held on August 21st at Rob Galbraith's house from 5:30 – 7:30. Please sign up on the bulletin board so we know how much food to prepare.

    • JEANNE also reported that our club's web site is being redesigned and updated. BRUCE HARDING is tackling that project and should be able to show results soon.

    PROPOSED NEW MEMBERS:

Susan Henson, sponsored by JEANNE NORBERG, and Sangita Handa, sponsored by ZBIG GRABOWSKI, were approved for membership by the Board of Directors. If there are no objections, they will be introduced soon.

    JANE'S CORNER:
    Board of Director's Report:
    • A request for $500 for the Zone meeting in Indianapolis was denied.

    • The Club Board will request the Club Foundation Board to contribute $500 toward the Backpack project. That will enable those who would like to sponsor a child to not only receive a tax deduction, but also Golden Service Recognition points.

    • The Backpack committee will encourage members to sponsor a child in order to augment the diet with fresh fruit and vegetables. Any amount will be welcomed, but $100 will provide the extra food for one child for the school year.

    • Ripples will be sent to members who meet the Rule of 85 but drop out due to poor health. At this point three past members fall into that category.

    • The December 23rd meeting will be a holiday program. The December 30th meeting will be a Family of Rotary Event.
