CLUB CONCERNS:
PRESIDENT ROB asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK, ROY WHISTLER, RAY KAVANAUGH, and AL CHISCON

PROGRAM:

Rotarian JIM HANKS introduced Dave Wright, Executive Director of Camp Tecumseh. Wright assumed the Executive Directorship in 1989, after beginning as a canoe leader in 1973, and becoming a full time employee 2 years later following graduation from IU.

Mr. Wright showed a wonderful, comprehensive video on Camp Tecumseh (CT). The Camp is a 300 acres scenic sight that operates with its own Board of Directors as an independent YMCA. Camp Tecumseh is celebrating its 85th year and will welcome 35,000 people this year. 180 staff leads and serves 4,000 campers this summer who come from 30 states and 13 countries. From equestrian programming to school enrichment programs, from spiritual development to learning responsibility, CT seeks through outstanding counselors and staff to impact lives positively.

Mr. Wright dispelled 3 myths.

1) CT is a purely a recreational experience. Wrong! CT is primarily a youth ministry helping kids grow in spirit, mind and body, focusing on their I AM THIRD Motto: God first, Others second, and I am Third.

2) CT is primarily a summer camp experience. Wrong! Summer programming is big but only represents about 10 % of guests in a year.

3) CT is only for kids. Wrong! 20% of people who experience CT are adults with church groups, leadership camps and family camps and family reunions.

Mr. Wright commented on their recent capacity expansion by one third. A brochure was distributed.

Finally, Mr. Wright challenged us to get involved with a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program. He is a member of Delphi's Club in District 6540 and they host a RYLA program annually for high school students at Camp Tecumseh.
