PROGRAM:

BILL LOVELL introduced Gus Nyberg with NICHES Land Trust. After a group formed to unsuccessfully oppose the building of the West Lafayette Wal-Mart in a wetland, they went on to create an organization called NICHES. Through continued efforts, the organization has acquired 2,315 acres of land to protect. River frontage, forests, prairie regions and savanna offer passive recreation for humans and an ark for the plants and animals. The land has been donated or purchased at bargain prices. The dream is to connect Prophetstown State Park with the trail system along the Wabash River down stream of the cities. Gus went on to describe each area and announced a couple of upcoming events. For more information and location of the wildlife areas, visit their website at www.nicheslandtrust.org
