CLUB CONCERNS:
PRESIDENT JOHN asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK, ROY WHISTLER, RAY KAVANAUGH, and the family and friends of STAN MITHOEFER who lost his mother this week.
THANK YOUS:

PRESIDENT JOHN'S "Thank you for caring a whole awful lot" plaques went to JOHN BARRETT for being an engaging song leader and a Rotary volunteer.

Congratulations!

VOCATIONAL FOCUS:

BARB REIF was born in Dixon, IL, home of Ronald Regan. She taught 1st grade to migrant farm workers' children in Fresno, CA; enjoyed being a pastor's wife and the mother of three children; and her volunteer activities at the YWCA. But it was her time as the Executive Director of the Girl Scouts in Peoria where she had some of her most rewarding experiences. The mission of Rotary closely parallels that of the Girl Scouts.

PROGRAM:

JACK KELLEY introduced GSE Team leader ALEX NYAGA, a Rotarian from Nairobi, Kenya, who in turn introduced his team members, noting that their District covers five countries. Eritrea is the only country in the District not represented on this team. Samuel Dawa is a lecturer (professor) of business technology in Kampala, Uganda. He highlighted features of his country and ended by telling us he is married and has a very young daughter. Kheri Uussuf from Zanzabar off the coast of Tanzania, manages a not-for-profit arts academy. Where he comes from, the people are a mixture of Arab and African. Lula Sherif is in journalism and communications in Ethiopia, where they use the Julian calendar (13 month years). Twice the size of Texas, Ethiopia has 82 million people with a very long history. James Osundwa works for the UN environmental program in Kenya. He says Kenya is the entry point to East Africa and where long distance athletes out run all their neighbors.
