    • Hi Everyone,

Please be aware of the following e-mail scam:

"We are pleased to inform you that you have emerged a recipient of our Rotary International Cash Grant Programs. You were selected by our Electronic Random Selection System (ERSS) from an exclusive list of 800,000,000 individual and corporate bodies generated from our resource database." NO TICKETS WERE SOLD.

This kind of scam uses something called "spoofing" to send their messages out. Spoofing is when scammers and spammers create the illusion that emails are coming from legitimate sources. They find a domain name, such as www.rotary.org, and use it to send off thousands of spam or malicious e- mails. They use a tool to automatically generate e-mail addresses which simulate legitimate ones.

In this case, the "Rotary Foundation International" has been spoofed and made to appear it came from Rotary International. It did not.

The best we can do is to be aware, be smart, and be vigilant when it comes to spam, junk emails, and scams such as the one discussed above. Keep in mind the common adage: "If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true!" Please continue to disregard and delete these kinds of messages. If you have any questions, please call me.
      Thanks,

      Monica Sullivan
