PROGRAM:

JEANNE NORBERG introduced the 11th President of Purdue University, France Cordova. She introduced her husband, Chris Foster, noting that after about 100 days in town they feel very welcome. Dr. Cordova described the excitement of having Neil Armstrong and Eugene Cernan along with fourteen other astronauts on campus recently for the dedication of the Neil Armstrong Engineering building.

The astronauts say that Purdue has the best events honoring them. The statue of Neil Armstrong as a student was unveiled, adding to the campus collection of art, which President Cordova believes can be increased. She outlined a few of the areas where she feels the university can improve listing the eight working groups for the new Strategic Plan. These groups will be made up of faculty, staff, students and people from the community.

The topics are: the student experience; large-scale research and research infrastructure; economic development; quality of life at the workplace; globalization; campus design; new synergies between the sciences and engineering and the liberal arts; and attracting new students to careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Her slogan is: If we can dream it, we can do it.
