PROGRAM:

ROB GALBRAITH introduced Jay Gephart, who is the 5th head of Purdue Bands after serving 13 years on the band faculty. Jay gave us a snapshot of statistics regarding student majors and grades. He then reviewed the history of the Band, which started in 1886 with five members in the Army Training Corp. The band remained a military band until 1954 when Al Wright transformed the program, overseeing tremendous growth. There are now 700 students in the band program - 340 in the All American Marching Band - with five full time faculty members offering academic courses.

The Golden Girl, Meghan Lamontagne, spoke to us about her experience as a twirler and University Amdassador. She is excited about performing at the upcoming Colts/Patriots Game and at the Olympics in Beijing this summer.

Jay ended by describing the process of creating a half-time show and asking for suggestions and questions from members.
