CLUB CONCERNS:

PRESIDENT JOHN asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK, JIM SMITH, ROY WHISTLER, BUD BAUGH. It was great to see LEO KLEMME back at Rotary today!

PROGRAM:

Today was the joint service club meeting to hear the Basketball Coaches' pre- season thoughts, hosted by the Kiwanis Club. Matt Painter, head coach of the Men's Basketball team, says that expectations and priorities are important. He preaches being a champion today. He reviewed the players, stressing that they do lots of get players in shape then switch the emphasis from the individuals to training the team to win games for Purdue. The player who wins the position gets it. There are no seniority privileges. He is anxious to get started with the season.

Sharon Versyp, head coach for the Women's Basketball team, was like Painter, a student athlete at Purdue. They agree on philosophy, procedures, and practices. Discipline and character of the player are important to her. She reviewed the current success of last year's players before talking about this year's challenges. It will be a tough schedule for a young, inexperienced team. Patience is needed. She is ready to get started on intense practice and invited us to a pancake breakfast and practice session this Saturday morning.
