THANK YOU:

PRESIDENT JOHN'S "Thank you for caring a whole awful lot" plaques went to REX KEPLER (which wasn't presented last week due to the combined service club meeting) and BETTY NELSON. Congratulations to both of you!

PROGRAM:

JIM HANKS introduced JOE BOORMAN, executive director of Westminster Village, who talked to us about "What are we going to do with all these old people!?" Some trends: Baby Boomers will re-define aging; Infrastructure is unprepared for boomers; Consumer driven model will replace institutional model; Center of care will shift from the institution to the home; Technology will allow people to be more independent. Uncertainties exist about the labor pool for leadership and workers; funding, regulatory environment, American cultural attitude toward aging, and the economy. In preparing for retirement we need to get our finances in order, determine who we can count on for help, have a plan for all of our stuff when downsizing, and get used to changing. Ask yourself how you will demonstrate grace when someone who isn't going to do anything the way you want it done is trying to help you.
