CONGRATULATIONS:

JERRY MC CARTHY was this week's recipient of JOHN SANDERSON'S special Thank You Plaque.

PROGRAM:

JOHN SANDERSON introduced DISTRICT GOVERNOR JIM GRAHAM, who introduced his wife and fellow Rotarian, ROBERTA, and Assistant Governor CLAUDIA BERGMAN from Kokomo. JIM'S theme for this year relates to planes and airways. "Zoom to Greater Heights" The Rotary International theme is Rotary Shares.

  • He stressed membership, asking each club to increase membership by at least 10%.
  • Polio Eradication: 4 countries (Afghanistan/Pakistan borderlands, India and Nigeria) remain infected.

  • The GSE team will arrive in April from Central Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia). Interviews to select a Rotarian to lead the outbound group will take place September 15th in Indianapolis.

  • Matching Grants: JIM would like each club to have one this year. Clubs not having it's own can participate in the District wide matching grant involving the Eldoret Project in Kenya.

  • Goals for the District:
    • $100 per member to The Rotary Foundation (International)
    • Increase membership by over 10%
    • Support GSE Team
    • District membership over 3,000
    • Highest attendance ever at District Conference (May 2/3, 2008)
    • Have the best feeling of being a Rotary team.
  • The Rotary Foundation is the most efficient Not-for-Profit. We need more Paul Harris Fellows. The money goes for:
    • Ambassadorial Scholarships
    • Volunteer Service Grants
    • District Simplified Grants
    • Group Study Exchange
    • Grants for University Teachers
    • Health Hunger and Humanity G rants
    • Support of Centers for Peace and Conflict Resolution
    • Matching Grants
