PROGRAM:

PROGRAM: JOHN SANDERSON introduced Alysa Christmas Rollock, J.D. Vice President for Human Relations at Purdue University, who gave a report on the Executive Report of the 2006-07 Diversity Assessment at Purdue. The purpose of the survey for this assessment was fourfold: help assess the progress of diversity goals of the 2001-06 Strategic Plan; give views of staff, faculty, and students with their perceptions of Purdue's diversity policies, programs, initiatives, and commitment to diversity; help units better understand and address successes, challenges, and needs; and provide information for future strategic planning. In the key findings approximately 24%of staff, 37% of faculty and 40% of students reported experiences of being recently harassed or discriminated against mainly on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, or age basically on Purdue Campus. These groups rated Purdue's diversity climate overall between average and good, with ratings falling below average for African American/black staff, faculty, and students.
