PROGRAM:

JOHN SANDERSON introduced MARTIN JISCHKE, President of Purdue University, who remembered speaking to the club shortly after he took the position of president seven years ago. He praised the vision of the trustees and the quality of the Purdue staff, alumni and friends as well as the quality of the community as he reviewed the strategic plan to take Purdue to the next level. Looking to the future, the incoming president, France Cordova, will have at least the following three tasks: Increase the scale of the research enterprise; Continue fund raising at a high level; and Continue to improve the learning environment. He and Patty came here because of the people and intend to stay in the community. They are looking forward to more free time to travel, contribute to the Board of Trustees of Illinois Institute of Technology, and to develop programs for Early Childhood Education.

When asked what personal characteristics he thought lead him to success, his immediate response was that he "married up!" In addition he was blessed with intelligence, a father who taught him the meaning of hard work, good health and abundant energy, and the good fortune to have scholarships. He believes he has lived the American dream.
