CLUB CONCERNS:

PRESIDENT JAN asked us to keep the following in our thoughts and prayers: BOB BROCK and BILL HATFIELD who had heart surgery in Indianapolis.
VOCATIONAL FOCUS:
SONYA MARGERUM believes that politics is a critical vocational choice. Her father was a government employee and then Republican Prosecutor for two terms. Her early experience with the League of Woman Voters was training ground for a future in politics. In 1980 she was elected mayor of West Lafayette, retiring after 24 years in 2004. Under her leadership a Strategic Plan was developed which resulted in Wabash Landing, the extensive trails system, and expansion of Purdue Research Park. She considers is an honor and an adventure to serve as mayor.
PROGRAM:

JEANNE NORBERG introduced Carl Behnke, chef at Westwood, the home of Purdue President Jischke. He opened his comments by saying that he was going to "talk Turkey" to everyone! His research shows that the first Thanksgiving was a three-day secular harvest festival. There would have been no potatoes, sugar, corn, beef, milk, cheese, eggs or pumpkin pie on the menu. They probably had seafood, turkey, goose or duck with lots of boiled or roasted root vegetables. After suggesting three types of menus, traditional, southern and gourmet, he gave us cooking tips to make our preparations safer and easier.
