CLUB CONCERNS

PRESIDENT DAVE BOUGH, requested members/spouses to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: JOHN and EUDORA MC KEE; ED PAGE; FAE SPURLOCK; BEV STONE; Marjorie spouse of DICK WALKER, JERRY MC CARTHY who had surgery, and Carolyn Risk, wife of late Rotary President KIRBY and mother of JIM, who is hospitalized with pneumonia. SANDY GRABOWSKI is home and recovering nicely. We were pleased to have ED PAGE, whose blindness prevents him from participating regularly, with us this noon.

President DAVE BOUGH gave a short eulogy for MIKE KOSMAN who died December 10th. He had been a Rotarian since 1949. A moment of silence was observed in remembrance of MIKE. We hold his wife Sylvia, his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Small Group Dinner on January 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the new Sarge Oaks Restaurant in the new Holiday Inn Select downtown. Please make reservations through MARTHA CHISCON.

The Raffle for Eradicate Polio brought in $110.00 today. $55.00 goes to the Rotary International Eradicate Polio Fund, $27.00 went to the winning ticket number (JAN GRIFFIN KOEHLER) and $28.00 was added to the kettle for the person who draws the Ace of Spades.

ANN PIECHOTA thanked all of the volunteers who rang bells for Salvation Army last Saturday. We filled every time slot at every location with at least one person. Results of the campaign will be announced later.

JIM TURLEY presented KEN EWING with a Paul Harris pin encrusted with a sapphire signifying that he has reached the second level of recognition for his giving to the Rotary Foundation. Congratulations KEN!

CONGRATULATIONS

John Huie, special assistant to the president at Purdue University and professor of agricultural economics, was honored with the Purdue Cooperative Extension Director's Award for his contributions to Purdue and the citizens of Indiana.

PROGRAM (December 17, 2002)

LINA REEVES-KERNER introduced Pete Kissinger, President and CEO of Bioanalytical Systems, and a member of Life Science Research Council along with the other two companies in Purdue Research Park who have provided programs for us this month. Pete drew us a quick picture of how the pharmaceutical business works these days in their effort to produce cures faster and cheaper that are safer and more effective.

GUESTS: Jerry Cane, guest of DENNIS DUNN; Carol Griffith and Amy Griffith, wife and granddaughter, respectively, of HARLEY GRIFFITH; Dick Forbes, guest of GENE HILLS; and Joe Hornett, guest of BOB GRIFFITHS.

Maggie Bottrell and Catlin Slauter from West Lafayette High School were our student guests today. They received a certificate and a travel mug with the four-way test to commemorate their visit with us. Jeff Sterns, music director at West Lafayette High School accompanied Maggie and Catlin.
