PROGRAM (August 6, 2002)

JANE TURNER introduced LIZ SOLBERG, who gave a very interesting overview of Amtrak's current difficulties. Congress needs to define the role of passenger rail service in the U.S. It was pointed out that other modes of transportation are subsidized and are less environmentally friendly. Regional rail service is successful in parts of the U.S. and is considered by some to be a necessity for the Midwest.

VISITING ROTARIANS: Jay Smith was back with us today from the Daybreak Club.

VISITORS: Juliano Nogueira from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil was the guest of BILL FULLER and Emily Reif was the guest of grandmother BARB REIF.

FREE MEALS: The free meal drawings today went to OSCAR HOPKINS and BOB GRIFFITHS who generously donated their winnings to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation.
