President DAVE BOUGH announced that JANE TURNER has been hired to replace GRIFF as the club's Executive Secretary and the position will not be divided into three different positions.  It will take a little bit of time to square away the details and for JANE to know all the answers, so please continue to be patient with all of us as we figure out what we are doing.

PROGRAM (July 23rd, 2002)

BOB GRIFFITH gave VICKI MAYES, Superintendent, Lafayette Parks & Recreation Department (LP&RD) a musical introduction. She spoke on "The Hearts N Parks Initiative".  This program is designed to enhance health and well being, the LP&RD was selected by the NHLBI to be one of the 50 test sites which is a great honor, but Indiana having a high fat rating may have also had an impact. Parks are a good place to run these programs as 75% of the nations population lives within 2 miles walking distant to a local park.  Cardiovascular Disease is the leading cause of death in the US. In Indiana one in five are obese, two in five over weight. A little walking or exercise in a sedentary person helps a great deal. Eating healthy, exercising and not watching the average 23 hours of TV per week will help to get us back on the right track to healthy lives.

VISITING ROTARIANS: Jay Smith was back with us today from the Daybreak Club.

VISITORS: Zbig and Sandy Grabowski were guests of MARTHA and AL CHISCON. DAVE BOUGH's guest today was his daughter Natalie Bough. BOB GRIFFITHS' guest was Dick Jeager.

FREE MEALS: The free meal drawings today went to - LARRY TEDER & GIL SATTERLY, who generously donated their winnings to the Lafayette Rotary Foundation.

THANKS YOUS: We received a thank you note from Bud Baugh for the cards, mum plant, prayers and calls after his success back surgery.

THANKS to these Rotarians for help with this week's MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors- NELLIE LECHMAN - 11:15 to 11:45a.m., and GORDY YOUNG - 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Greeter - ANGEL HERNANDEZ & JUDY RHODES; Invocation -KEN EWING; and Music - BOB GRIFFITHS.  JO WADE & GORDY YOUNG were at the back table.
