UPCOMING PROGRAM (October 19, 2000)

There will be no meeting on October 17, 2000. The regular Tuesday, October 17th, meeting has been moved to Thursday, October 19th, in order to be a part of the All Service Club/Community Meeting at the University Inn Conference Center and Suites Grand Ballroom, same time as the Club's regular meeting. Noon Kiwanis is the host for this meeting and will have Kristy Curry, Women's Basketball Coach, and Gene Keady, Men's Basketball Coach, as speakers. DEEPEST SYMPATHY to CHRISTA KECK and DAVID FILMER on the recent death of CHRISTA's mother.

HARLAND WHITE called to thank the Club for the flowers and indicated that he was back home at Westminster Village and resting and trying to get his strength back.

DICK WALKER wrote indicating that he and MARJORIE have sold their home in Lakeside and moved to the North Side Retirement Community (two bedrooms, two baths, patio, enclosed porch, A/C, and facing north which provides ideal light for painting), address is 9373 Hartley Drive, Lakeside, OH 43440 � telephone the same (419) 798-5192. ANNOUNCEMENTS

PAYMENT OF DUES: Dues are delinquent as of October 31st. When writing check for dues, don't forget President DAN's request to include a contribution, hopefully $100.00, to Rotary International to assist with the PolioPlus Project (eradicate polio worldwide by the year 2005).

NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE (Committee), BOB GRIFFITHS, Chair, presented a slate of Rotary officers for 2001-2002 to the Club Board of Directors (Board) at the Board's meeting last evening, Tuesday, October 9th. The following Committee's recommended slate was accepted by the Board: OSCAR HOPKINS � President; DAVE BOUGH � President Elect; BETTY SUDDARTH � Vice President; GRIFF � Secretary; DALE MC HENRY � Treasurer; KEITH SMITH, Assistant Treasurer; JON HUSTON and ELSA JANLE � Town Directors (three year term); BARB HANSEN and GIL SATTERLY � Gown Directors (three year term); and BETTY NELSON � Lafayette Rotary Foundation Director (five year term). Board also approved Committee's recommendation for VICKI MAYES to complete MARVIN BLADE's term as Director, Vocational Avenue of Service, and GIL SATTERLY to complete KAE MOORE's term as Director (Community Avenue of Service). Election, if one is needed, or slate approval by the membership will be at the first regular Club meeting in December, Tuesday, December 5th. Nominations will be accepted from the membership, but must be in the hands of the Nominating Committee at least ten days before the first regular Club meeting (Friday, November 24th) in December. Each nomination must have the written support of two additional members and the written consent of the nominee.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE for President of Rotary International in 2002-2003 reports the unanimous nomination of Bhichai Rattakul of the Rotary Club of Dhonburi, Bangkok, THAILAND.

PROGRAM (October 10, 2000)

President DAN introduced DENNIS WEIDENAAR who made a most interesting presentation by sharing a mosaic of change woven together and described by the following five dimensions: A macro comparison of the US and the rest of the world; the reshaping of America; our rising standard of living; growth in government; and the American workforce. DENNIS noted that information on the transparencies is available from the following website: www.senate.gov/~jec/century.pdf

VISITING ROTARIANS: Elaine Ellison, Daybreak; and Lloyd Orrick, Pekin, IL.

VISITORS: STEVE HYCHKA, spouse of SUSAN; PAM MADRID, spouse of new member, MIKE; Chris Smith (Director of Development, Pharmacy), guest of JIM FENN; Mark Diekman (Father of High School guest, Brian, and Professor, Animal Sciences, Purdue), guest of JIM FOSTER; and Gordon Raines (Retired, Financial Management, Abbott Laboratories, Chicago), guest of JACK HATCHER.

WEST LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL GUESTS: Stacey Finke and Brian Diekman, guests of the Club and hosted/introduced by DAVID ROQUEMORE. President DAN presented certificates of recognition and Rotary travel mugs (Four-Way Test on them) to Stacey and Brian. Information brochures about Ambassadorial Scholarships for future reference will be mailed to Stacey and Brian.
