PROGRAM (July 11, 2000)

President GENE closed his year by noting that initially he had urged all to be "helpful and unselfish" Rotarians and cited 24 activities (which did not cover everything) that Rotarians had done, and thanked everyone for their support. He indicated that: (1) Being President of Rotary is like being a father to your adult daughters, i.e., father can suggest, can observe, can encourage, offer advice, be proud and supportive, but he cannot order or demand anything; and (2) Similarly a Rotary President has lots of responsibility but very little authority. He indicated that four times at wedding receptions he had shaken hands with new son-in-laws and either consciously or subconsciously said, "I wish you well, she is your responsibility now!" He then wished President DAN well, indicated that this Rotary Club is now your responsibility, and handed him the gavel.

President DAN presented Immediate Past President GENE with his bound copy of this year's "Ripples", new badge, diamond lapel pin, and Club President wall plaque. More of President DAN's remarks in the next issue of "Ripples."

JON HUSTON introduced Jeff Cardwell, who made a most interesting presentation, with slides, about his many tours to the Amazon.
