FAYE COLE, Owner, Lafayette Relocation Services, Faye Cole and spouse of JERRY, will talk about Lafayette Relocation Services and the Greater Lafayette area, in general. FAYE will be introduced by JERRY, Program Coordinator for February 8 and 22, 2000. Apology to FAYE for misspelling her name in last week’s “Ripples” and on today’s Rotary program transparency.

MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - DON GENTRY, 11:15 to 11:45, and JERRY MC CARTHY, 11:45 to 12:15; Greeter - GREG KAPP; Invocation - STEVE MOTT; Music - SUSAN SMITH; and High School Guests (West Lafayette) hosted by LINA REEVES-KERNER.

CLUB CONCERNS: Prior to the invocation today, President GENE COURTANEY (President GENE), requested members to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: LINDA EWING, spouse of KEN; YB HALL; BOB HIATT; MARV PHILLIPS; JOE SICER; and BEV STONE.

DEEPEST SYMPATHY to JOHN BARRETT whose mother, Minnie, died at 4:30 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2000, in Dyersburg, TN.

DAVID BOUGH has a new address and telephone: 4035 Botanical Lane, Lafayette 47905-0602 - telephone 420-8020.

TODD SMITH, in a letter dated January 28th, noted that he and spouse, KELLY, are the parents of their first child, Colton Downing, and that he would be going back to school. As a result, TODD has resigned from Rotary, but hopes to return to membership at a later date.

  • ROTARIAN-OF-THE YEAR SELECTION: BOB BROCK, Chair, will meet at 11:00 a.m., next Tuesday, February 8th, Tailgate Lounge, University Inn Conference Center and Suites (University Inn).

  • SCHOLARSHIP & CITIZENSHIP: MARK RUSSELL, Chair, will meet next Tuesday, February 8th, University Inn; time and location will be mailed to Committee members.

  • VOCATIONAL PROJECTS: ELAINE CUE, Chair, will meet immediately after the regular Club meeting next Tuesday, February 8th, University Inn; meeting location will be forwarded to members via mail.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • ANNUAL DINNER (Dinner) - TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 2000, UNIVERSITY INN (please remember, no regular Club meeting on that day). OSCAR HOPKINS, Vice President, and Chair, announced that the Dinner is an evening of festivity and fun which traditionally includes entertainment by the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, directed by BRIAN BREED; Glee Club members join Rotarians, spouses, and special guests at their tables for dinner. And, noted that there will be one or two new program thrusts this year, i.e., Glee Club’s location will be much different and there will be a new video production. Rotarians should remember that a significant part of the Club’s cost is related to meals provided to the Glee Club and the spouses of deceased Rotarians; please consider financial assistance to sponsor one or two of the Club’s guests. Even if you are unable to attend the Dinner, your support is still needed and appreciated. The evening starts with an open cash bar at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, $25.00 per person, are on sale each Tuesday by DALE MC HENRY at the money collection table.

  • SHOTS NOT SPOTS, immunization of Tippecanoe County children against childhood diseases, will again be assisted by Rotary via the Community Service Projects Committee, LEW RUNNELS, Chair. FRITZ COHEN, Project Coordinator, announced that the next Shots Not Spots will be Tuesday, March 14, 2000 and there is need for volunteers during the following times: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon (setup) - need five volunteers; 12:00 noon - 2 p.m. - need four volunteers; 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. - need four volunteers; and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. (tear down) - need four volunteers. Sign-up sheets will be on the tables for the next few Tuesdays; please make an effort to assist with the Project.

  • SMALL GROUP DINNERS (Dinners): JANE TURNER announced that the next Dinner is scheduled at CHRIS and JACKIE FUNK’s home, 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1st. Cost is $8.00 per person with a limit of 14; reserve space with JANE at 423-1371.

FEBRUARY BIRTHDAY TABLE: MARA WASBURN, Chair, February Birthday Table, announced that Rotarians with birthdays in February contributed $882.00 to the Lafayette and International Foundations.

VISITORS: BILL LECHMAN, spouse of NELLIE; Norbert Stratkemper (General Manager, Worwag Coatings LLC), guest of JERRY COLE; Jack Hatcher, (School of Management), guest of BARB DOSTER; John Tandarich (Soil scientist with a private firm in Chicago), guest of CHRIS JOHANNSEN; and Dave Williams (Business Development, PEFCU), guest of JIM TURLEY.

MC CUTCHEON HIGH SCHOOL GUESTS: Shannon Detzner and Greg Swank, guests of the Club and hosted/introduced by RAY PEETERS. RAY presented certificates of recognition and President GENE presented information brochures about Ambassadorial Scholarships for future reference and Rotary travel mugs (4-Way Test on them) to Shannon and Greg.

FRITZ COHEN introduced Vicky Jones, Instructor, Lafayette Adult Reading Academy (LARA), (substituting for Jo Ann Vorst, Director, whose father died yesterday) who along with “learners” Lori Hartnet and Sandra Patrick, made a most interesting and moving presentation. Lori and Sandra’s presentations about their life experiences and accomplishments were quite moving. Vicky stressed taking and reviewing LARA literature on the table. Also, requested Rotarians, who desire, to volunteer/assist with the work of LARA.
