Jo Ann Vorst, Director, or Vicky Jones, Instructor, Lafayette Adult Reading Academy (Academy), will provide a program regarding the services provided to the Greater Lafayette community by the Academy. Jo Ann and/or Vicky will be introduced by FRITZ COHEN who arranged this program.

FEBRUARY PROGRAMS: JERRY COLE, Program Coordinator for the month of February, has arranged for the following programs:

  • Tuesday, February 15, 2000: Vocational Service Award - ELAINE CUE, Chair, and members of the Vocational Projects Committee;

  • Tuesday, February 29, 2000: DENNIS DUNN, Futurist Presentation.

MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - DON GENTRY, 11:15 to 11:45, and JERRY MC CARTHY, 11:45 to 12:15; Greeter - JEAN JACKSON; Invocation - SUSAN HYCHKA; Music - SUSAN SMITH; and High School Guests (McCutcheon) hosted by RAY PEETERS.

CLUB CONCERNS: Prior to the invocation today, President Elect DAN TEDER (President Elect DAN), substituting for President GENE COURTANEY, requested members to keep the following in their thoughts and prayers: LINDA EWING, spouse of KEN; YB HALL; BOB HIATT; MARV PHILLIPS (They returned home from Boston, MA on Saturday night, January 22nd, following a round of pneumonia while visiting, their daughter, who is a doctor; planned to stay two weeks and ended up staying a month); JOE SICER; and BEV STONE.

Dick Collings (Dick), 1994-1995 District Governor, Rotary International District 6560, died at 1:40 a.m., Friday, January 21, 2000. Dick was a member of the Rockville Rotary Club. On Friday, January 28th, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a celebration of Dick’s life at the Presbyterian Church on the corner of the square in Rockville, an informal gathering at Turkey Run State Park will follow.

JOHN DE CAMP (JOHN) - Received a letter from JOHN yesterday which indicated a hospital stay in early November. Talked with JOHN this afternoon, he had some defibrillating of the heart, in the hospital a few days, home now, still not feeling up-to-par, supposed to walk somewhere every day - but doesn’t, and sees doctor again on April 12th. It was a joy to talk with him, he’s an all-time favorite.

BOB FIELDS honored by the Agricultural Alumni Association at the recent Agricultural Alumni Fish (Pork) Fry, Friday, January 21st.

CORRECTIONS - DECEMBER 1999 100% ROTARY ATTENDANCE listing: (1) BOB FEUER has 17 years, not 16 years as was listed; and (2) JIM HANKS has 19 months and JAY WILEY has 232 months of 100% attendance.

  • INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION: JIM TURLEY, Chair, will meet at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2000, around a designated table in the luncheon room, University Square, University Inn Conference Center and Suites (University Inn).

  • ANNUAL DINNER: OSCAR HOPKINS, Vice President and Chair, will meet immediately after the regular Club meeting, Tuesday, February 1, 2000, probably in Tailgate Lounge, will confirm via letter, University Inn.

  • ROTARY/PMO SERVICE ABOVE SELF: JIM HANKS, Chair, will meet immediately after the regular Club meeting, Tuesday, February 8, 2000, probably in Tailgate Lounge, will confirm at a later date, University Inn.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS:

JOHN D. SANDERSON (JOHN) with classification EDUCATION--Technical-Director of Development, John Sanderson was introduced by his sponsor, BETTY DOVERSBERGER. JOHN, while noted as a new member, was a Rotarian from January 9, 1990 until his schedule necessitated resigning on May 9, 1995. JOHN and his spouse, BETTY, are the parents of four children and reside at 3602 Debbie Drive, Lafayette 47905-8827 - telephone 742-8947. BETTY is Lay Pastor Associate, Church of the Blessed Sacrament, and JOHN is Director of Development, Ivy Tech State College, 3101 South Creasy Lane, Lafayette 47903 - telephone 772-9293.

JOSEPH T. KRAUSE (JOE) with classification Past Service, EDUCATION--Public School, Joe Krause Teaching, was introduced by his sponsor BILL HATFIELD. JOE and his spouse, BARBARA, are the parents of three children and reside at 221 Connolly Street, West Lafayette - 47906-2723, e-mail < jkr5182853@aol.com >. JOE is a retired West Lafayette High School teacher, 39 years, and retired long-time member of the West Lafayette City Council. JOE’s Rotary committees are: Scholarship & Citizenship (MARK RUSSELL, Chair); International Center (VINCE BRALTS, Chair); and World Community Service (DAVE BOUGH, Chair).
